Pietro Fittipaldi, the grandson of two-time Formula One world champion Emerson Fittipaldi, has been confirmed as the Haas test and reserve driver for the 2021 season. The Brazilian racer, who has competed in the FIA World Endurance Championship and NASCAR Cup Series, is set to continue his sportscar racing commitments alongside his new role.
Fittipaldi has made a big impression in the sportscar racing world in recent years, having won the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2018 and the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2019. He also finished third overall in the 2019-2020 FIA World Endurance Championship and was a race winner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2020.
The 23-year-old will now add Formula One to his resume, having been signed as the test and reserve driver for Haas. He will be taking part in all of the Friday practice sessions during the 2021 season and will be on hand to replace either Romain Grosjean or Kevin Magnussen should either of the drivers be unable to take part in a race.
Fittipaldi is excited to be part of the team and is looking forward to the challenge of competing in Formula One. “I’m really excited to be joining Haas F1 Team as their test and reserve driver for 2021,” said Fittipaldi. “It’s a great opportunity for me to be part of a Formula One team and to learn and experience a lot in the process. I’m looking forward to the challenge and I’m sure I’ll be able to contribute to the team’s success.”
Fittipaldi’s appointment is a positive move for Haas, who are looking to bounce back from a difficult 2020 season. The Brazilian racer’s experience in sportscar racing and his knowledge of the current Formula One cars should be beneficial to the team.
With his sportscar racing commitments and Formula One duties, 2021 is set to be a busy year for Pietro Fittipaldi. However, he is looking forward to the challenge and is determined to make the most of the opportunity.
