Republican Ken Buck of Colorado has come out in opposition to the GOP’s efforts to oust Rep. Ilhan Omar from the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The Republican Party has been pushing to remove the Minnesota Democrat from the committee over her comments about Israel and her support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement. However, Buck has spoken out against the move, saying it would be a mistake to remove Omar from the committee.
“I don’t think it’s appropriate to remove her from the committee,” Buck said in an interview. “I think it’s important that we have a diversity of opinions on the committee and we should be able to have a robust exchange of ideas.”
Buck is one of the few Republicans to come out against the effort to remove Omar from the committee. He noted that while he disagreed with Omar’s views on Israel and BDS, he felt it was important to respect her right to express her opinions.
“I think it’s important that we have a diversity of opinions on the committee and we should be able to have a robust exchange of ideas,” he said. “We should be able to have an honest and open dialogue about these issues and not just shut down the conversation.”
Buck’s stance on the issue has been praised by some Democrats, who have accused the GOP of trying to silence Omar and her views. They argue that removing her from the committee would be a violation of her right to free speech.
For his part, Buck has said he hopes the House will be able to come to a resolution on the issue without resorting to removing Omar from the committee. He believes that all sides should be able to have a respectful dialogue about the issues and that the House should be a place where different opinions can be exchanged.
